Acupuncture 2 – Elizabeth 0

This is the one and only time I will say I am glad that I’m behind on the score board. If you have never tried acupuncture, in my opinion, it is a must. If you know nothing about acupuncture here is the cliff notes version. It is an ancient Chinese medicine that uses very small needles to hit points in your body that are related to different parts of your body and their function. No, the needles do not hurt unless they go in to a point where the energy is blocked. Then, they hurt very briefly and slowly release the energy so it flows freely. What happens is when points get blocked our energy stops flowing freely through that point.  It is at that time that our body starts sending signals in the form of pain — almost as a warning flare.
The first time I did acupuncture I was desperate. It wasn’t that I didn’t believe in it but like most, the thought of needles just chilling in me was weird. In 2010 my mom and I were doing a cruise from Miami, Florida down to the Panama Canal. It was my graduation gift. My mom had a treatment for seasickness on the first day. Fast forward to the next day — we were between Florida and Aruba and I was sick as all get out. The ocean was super rough and my body just couldn’t deal.  My mom, who was up walking around and just fine – not normal — told me I should get an acupuncture treatment to treat the seasickness.  HOLY COW!!! Did it ever work! It wasn’t long after laying on the table that I started feeling the relief. It made the trip so much more enjoyable.
We have now made it a habit that the first thing we do on a cruise is schedule an acupuncture appointment for the treatment of seasickness – totally as a preventative step.
Fast forward again to last year, 2018. My mom and I decided to take a cruise of South America that went from Lima, Peru to Buenos Aires, Argentina. This cruise is known as one of the rough ones! But let me give some background first.  We did a week land tour to Machu Picchu ( a must see!) before joining the ship.  That was a painful week for me. My system just decided to boycott food so I didn’t eat and was constantly having my system clear. Gatorade and water were my best friends. But I made it through the week! Phew… finally on the ship I figured it had just been that I was in need of a spiritual cleanse and that is how it manifested. My body evened out and I did my normal acupuncture treatment for seasickness as well as to realign my body after the rough week. About a week into the cruise my system decided to revolt again but this time I had acupuncture to turn to. This was its big win, that took it up 2 to nothing. I went in feeling awful — headaches, chills, a little nausea but within a few seconds of the acupuncturist placing the needles my body began to mellow and relax. By the end I was a new person again. Yet again acupuncture came to the rescue using all-natural ways and working with my body’s energy.
As an aside I’m not a fan of traditional doctors. Don’t get me wrong they have their place, but I prefer helping give my body the power to heal itself without drugs. Since being home from my trip I have had about 4 more treatments and man do I feel the difference. Tight Back? Acupuncture. Tension? Acupuncture. Hurting joints? Acupuncture.
Acupuncture is my answer.
If you’ve never tried it, I recommend you do! What do you have to lose?
