You Keep talking about my Ascendant but what is it?
I know I keep talking about looking at your Ascendant for your monthly prediction but I also know I have gotten the “that’s great Elizabeth but what the heck is the Ascendant actually?” Well, that is what I am going to share with your today.
The Ascendant is determined off of your time of birth. Some call it your rising sign. It was the sign and degree of that sign on the eastern horizon at the exact moment you were born in your birth snapshot or natal chart. The ascendant then dictates the general themes and trends you will see in your life. It also dictates which house starts your chart. This sets up everything about who you are, your houses and how the planets fall into the various houses to give your life meaning and to give insights into what you can expect along the journey of your life.
Your Ascendant really sets up the type of family life you will have and the type of career you may be drawn to or excel at. Then based on your ascendant we see where the planets fall into the different houses in your birth picture. This gives even more meaning to how things can play out in your life. I always say 70% is written in the stars but there is still 30% that you have free will over to influence and change. However, if you don’t know, then you can’t change anything.
I have found from all the readings that I have done that everyone has related more to their Ascendant than to their Sun sign. (See Sun Sign Benefit or Hinderance). What truly becomes an aspect of who we are and where we focus depends on where the ruler of our first house moves to. For example, if you have a Pisces Ascendant I will be looking to see where the ruler of Pisces goes. Jupiter as the ruler of Pisces let’s say goes to the 10th house which is our career. A person with their first house ruler in their tenth house will be all about their career. That is where their focus will lay. If, for example, you have Venus sitting on your ascendant you will be more charming and graceful. You will tend to look more put together and put the time into your appearance. Someone with Mars on their ascendant will be more fast moving and may be quick to anger.
