This article appeared in Astrologic Magazine on April 1, 2021. I had written it back in March when Prince Philip was just out of the hospital. Given the current events I wanted to ensure it was posted to my personal blog for full understanding.
His Royal Highness Prince Philip, born June 10, 1921 at 9:46pm in Mon Repos, Greece. The town I have used matches the longitude and latitude and I believe this chart plays out nicely when we look back on his almost 100 years alive on planet earth. He was born Prince Philip of Greece and Denmark but his family was exiled from Greece when he was an infant. He is known primarily as the husband of Queen Elizabeth II, the longest reigning British monarch in history. He has four children with Queen Elizabeth.
What a life to be able to look at the chart indications for.
Prince Philip has his ascendant in Sagittarius. This makes the ruler of his chart Jupiter, which goes to his ninth house. This indicates that travel is a part of his life and that he has an interest in worldly matters on a global level that direct his life. He has good finances and gets support from authority figures. He will do a lot of long-distance travel out of country in his life. His ascendant is placed in the lunar mansion of Purva Ashada indicating he has leadership abilities. He is someone who is proud and independent and is controlling towards achieving his need to better his life. He has a philosophical and emotional depth. He has great oratorical abilities. He is someone who can be fearless but also can at times be aggressive and confrontational.
I will note that Philip has a Kala Sarpa yoga or what is considered to give him a life of fated-destiny. This can make the high times high but the low times low. After each low in his life he would rise higher than the last high.
In his fifth house, Aries, are Venus and one of the nodes of the Moon, Ketu. Both these planets are in the lunar mansion of Ashwini which gives him a real zeal and zest for life. But he can have a restless and impatient nature rushing off without planning ahead. He is someone who is self-sufficient and reliable. He can be light hearted. He may have a desire to go fast when driving or have an interest in horses and racing. Venus in this placement indicates that humanitarian work is a part of his life purpose. He can be persuasive, playful and adventurous. He has impeccable social skills and can be very charming. The ruler of his sixth house being in his fifth house gives him a strong constitution and healthy body. Mars rules this house and is in his seventh house of relationships which indicates that children will play a pivotal role in his marriage. It can indicate that the children may work with his spouse and that his spouse is successful in life and has many associations. Ketu in his fifth house can indicate a capacity to make sudden changes and respond quickly to events. He can be cunning in warlike activities. He seems to have a life where sudden events come up causing change and disruption. He has a profound understanding and compassion. For him children may cause him worry and concern and he could be overprotective which can be overwhelming for the children. He can be prone to heart ailments.
In his sixth house, Taurus, is the Sun. The fact that he only has this one malefic in his sixth house of health indicates a strong vitality and healthy body. Healthy eating and exercise are part of his daily regime. He has an intense drive to achieve and a powerful work ethic. He can at times be overly critical of others which could get him in to some trouble. He has a military mindset and has a sense of service. He can work in government. He could have trouble with relatives. He has the ability to handle people well and weigh what he says before speaking. He stays fixed in his purpose and he is someone who works best in a defined and established business. (I believe the monarchy counts!) The Sun rules his ninth house which can indicate connections to the defense field. He served in the British Royal Navy from 1939 until 1952 when Queen Elizabeth ascended to the throne. His Sun is in the lunar Mansion of Mrigashira indicating a need to have plenty of exercise and fresh, open air in order for him to remain balanced. He is mentally sharp and creative and sensitive. He can be restless and may have constantly been searching or looking for something that even he may not have known what it was.
In his seventh house, Gemini, are Mars and Mercury. This connection can make him someone that is more aggressive in his communication style and he may need to slow down and think before speaking. He can have quick problem-solving skills and be prone to angry moods. He is competitive and ambitious and ruthless when it comes to achieving his goals. His Mars indicates that he can be analytical and may sometimes push ahead with only mental energy. He is active with his relatives. He has a desire to learn. He can have a sharp tongue. He is passionate about life and can act spontaneously. He enjoys a strong willed and vigorous partner. His Mercury can indicate that he has good communication skills and can enjoy mental pursuits. He may have a good sense of humor and be quick-witted. He can be attracted to someone younger than himself. He can be a spokesperson for a business. He will respect the rules of engagement. He is someone who approaches relationships first from the mind and has a desire for a partner that is intelligent with a sense of humor of their own.
His Mercury is in the lunar mansion of Punarvasu which is considered the “Star of Renewal”. He has an ability to bounce back with no boundaries to what he can accomplish. He has a love of travel but wants a home base and family to come back to. He is someone who could have multiple careers. Mars rules his twelfth house and in the seventh can indicate that he and his wife might do better if they live at a distance or are away on travel and have the ability to take time for themselves. There can be miscommunications and lack of understanding within the relationship at times. But on the other hand, he has the ruler of the tenth house of career in his seventh house of the partner. This can indicate that working with his spouse can be of great advantage and bring success. He has the ability to talk to anyone about anything. His career could include international travel. He can show that his partner can help with his career but also that she will do well in her own career. He is someone who gets great benefit from marriage and wants to be married and in a relationship from an early age.
In his eighth house, Cancer, is the Moon. The Moon rules Cancer and is at home here but the Moon in the eighth house can be a hard placement. He will need to really work on sharing his feelings and emotions with others as he can prefer to keep them to himself. Now, the Moon is right on the cusp making it ghandanta, which can be tougher. He can be curious about the unknown and look to research so he can learn more. He may have had a distant relationship with his mother. He can have a sensitive side and be very perceptive. He is someone who has the capacity to deal with family or emotional problems better than most. He may sometimes feel a lack of love but wouldn’t express it given this placement. He is someone that can be constantly analyzing himself, making him his own worst critic. Moon ruling his eighth house and being in his eighth house can give him good health, vitality and longevity. His Moon is in the lunar mansion of Ashlesha indicating he will put his time and energy into those things which are of interest to him. He may not enjoy authority figures and may struggle with hearing criticism or being humiliated.
In his ninth house, Leo, are Jupiter and Saturn. Jupiter can indicate military or executive ability. He is a dependable friend and trustworthy. This can indicate heart or circulatory issues. This can indicate him having many grandchildren. He has the ability to think big. Saturn can indicate that he is hard-working and persistent. He is someone who can work silently in the background but could be conflicted between responsibilities to himself and to others. His father may have been stern and controlling with many rules to abide by. He can have the potential for problems with his siblings. He is someone who is highly educated and emotionally stimulated from higher levels of knowledge. He can benefit from long distance travel but this can also cause him to be tired. Jupiter and Saturn are in the lunar mansion of Purva Phalguni indicating that he has an ability to communicate with and influence others. He is someone who is more inclined to entice others to his view rather than forcing them. He is physically active, friendly and lively. This lunar mansion is known for people being married or in long term relationships and this is especially true given that Jupiter is the ruler of his chart and who he is.
In his eleventh house, Libra, is the other node of the Moon, Rahu. This can indicate that he is surrounded by many influential and powerful people in life that give him opportunities. His friends can be very materialistic having both a good and bad side. This placement can indicate that the marriage of his first-born child could cause problems. (Prince Charles and Lady Diana ring a bell?) He can have success with foreign people or in foreign businesses. His material prosperity could improve after marriage. Rahu is in the lunar mansion of Chitra. This can make him well dressed and well read. He may be drawn to serious subjects such as philosophy or social thought. He can have opportunities outside his place of birth. But he needs to be aware he can be overly critical. He can be too quick to challenge someone’s point of view without hearing them out objectively.
When analyzing Prince Philips chart, it was amazing to me how we have seen so much of what was promised at the time of his birth. Prince Philip has been quoted as saying that he “had no desire whatsoever to reach the age of 100” and that “he couldn’t imagine anything worse”. With Him fast approaching his 100th birthday on June 10, 2021 it will be fascinating to watch what unfolds. Many souls know when their time has come and make comments as to what their soul desires. Will Philip make it to 100? We will soon find out.
